Mankohal is the name of the village encircled by hills on all sides which are rich in mineral resources. Hence, it is very natural that the previous greenery of the area is gradually perishing due to frequent blasting of the dynamites, crushing of the stones, constant movement of the traffic and the whirling storm of the stone-dust.

But, the life of the village flows on with a murmur amidst the stone-dust and the blasting sounds of the dynamites ....... there are love, hatred, greed, struggle for existence and desire to have a long and healthy life.

Suddenly one day, Mr. Souvagya Mishra, the landlord, who lives in town, comes to meet the villagers. This time he is contesting the general election from this area. Mr. Mishra requests the villagers to cast their votes in his favour and promises to pay rupees one hundred per vote.

An octogenarian beggar Anath, lives in the village who is suffering from tuberculosis and almost is in his death bed. Some of the villagers try to get his vote-money by any means. But, Bharosa, the village-head, wins. The old beggar becomes
affectionate to the family except the greedy Bharosa who thinks that he will push Anath out of the house by shoulder immediately after election... He must survive till the election is over.

But, just two days before the election, Anath starts vomiting blood. Bharosa and Sibu rush towards the "town-hospital" with Anath on their shoulder. In the midway, when they were crossing a quarry, blasting of dynamites start. Bharosa and Sibu flee to save their own lives leaving Anath behind. Anath's stick, begging-pot and napkin could be seen flying in the air amidst blasting and stone-dust. Bharosa Sibu gaze on with bewildered eyes. Suddenly Bharosa starts coughing... vomits blood... blood... blood. It is now Bharosa's turn.
